How to steam with the Propress MINI
MINI FAQS & Troubleshooting
To achieve the perfect finish you need a bit more than just steam! The MINI’s specially coated iron plate is unique to Propress. Steam relaxes and plumps up the fibres of your fabric giving them new life and making creases simply fall out, and the iron plate can be used to smooth the fabric like an iron.
You can use the MINI Clothes Steamer on most fabrics. Unlike other handheld steamers the MINI’s unique aluminium iron plate is heated, enabling it to cope with much heavier fabrics as well as lighter delicates such as silk and rayon.
We advise caution on fabrics that are not suitable for ironing such as PU.
Steamers are faster, more convenient and much kinder to fabrics than conventional steam irons.
The MINI is ready to use in just 45 seconds and there’s no ironing board to set up.
Unlike other handheld steamers, the MINI has a unique heated aluminium iron plate giving you the convenience of a steamer and many benefits of an iron.
Use only deionised or distilled water to prevent scale build up. Never use scented "Steamer" or "Ironing" water which will damage your steamer.
Steamers are generally much safer to use on fabrics than irons, primarily because they operate at lower temperatures. The contact temperature of an iron producing steam is >180°C.
The MINI however has a contact temperature of just 140°C, making it suitable for a much wider range of fabrics, and the unique low friction non-stick coated aluminium steam plate is designed to glide over the fabric, which also reduces the risk of burning.
No, you must never add descaler to the MINI, or any other additives to the water.
As long as you use deionised, demineralised or distilled water your MINI will give you optimum performance at all times.
This will depend on the garment, but we estimate a steaming time of less than a minute for shirts, tops and jackets and a bit longer for trousers and dresses.
The MINI, using the standard slimline tank, lasts for 7 minutes which should allow for approximately 6 garments to be steamed.
Using the Big Belly Tank steaming will last 13 minutes, enough to achieve approximately 10 garments.
This is designed to protect your hand when holding the garment from the heat of the steam. But please avoid aiming steam directly at the mitt.
Even though we take every care to ensure your Propress MINI is delivered in 100% perfect condition, it is still possible that, in rare cases, it has a fault.
If you discover that your product has a manufacturing or material defect, please contact our customer support and we will help you.
All Propress products come with 12 month’s warranty.
A loud clacking sound is normally a sign that water isn't reaching the pump and it's pumping air instead. This could be caused the tank not being clicked into place properly at the bottom, or it could be caused by an air bubble causing an air lock, or the pump running backwards.
1. Take the tank out and refit it making sure you hear it click into place at the top and the bottom. If the tank is fitted incorrectly there might be a fair bit of air in there so do let it run for a bit and if it doesn't start pulling water, then try step 2.
2. Try to dislodge air bubble - Turn steamer on with tank fitted and give the base a sharp rap on a hard surface like a desk, wait a few seconds to see if steam starts to come through.
3. Check the pump isn't running backwards - Take out the water tank and put your thumb over the little pipe that protrudes from the back of the case where the water tank normally sits. Turn the steamer on and see if that little tube is sucking air or blowing air? If blowing, hold your thumb over the opening for 30 seconds or until the air direction reverses. Refit tank and see if steam is now coming through after a few seconds.
If these steps don't solve the problem you can always contact us and arrange to send it in for our engineers to check it over.
What water have you been using inside the machine? If it is scented water, mineral water or tap water, there could be internal build up. We recommend only using distilled, deionised or demineralised water.
The MINIs can't be descaled but you can always contact us and arrange to send it in for our engineers to check it over. We can replace a clogged or contaminated heating chamber and get your MINI back up and steaming.
Have you been using the Velcro cable tie that came with the machine to loop your cable, or have you been wrapping the cable around the body of the machine? If the latter you may have damaged the electrical cable.
You can always contact us and arrange to send it in for our engineers to check it over. We can replace or refit a damaged electrical cable and get your MINI back up and steaming.
Have you checked the fuse in the plug? Have you tried the steamer in a different socket?
You can always contact us and arrange to send it in for our engineers to check it over. We can replace or refit a damaged electrical cable or power switch and get your MINI back up and steaming.
